Jalapeno almost speaks for it's self with it being used throughout restaurants and being so readily available as a preserve. Jalapeno is a extremely popular variety producing green fruit that can also be used when red. Don't be confused by its medium heat rating of 5/10 as it still backs a punch. Chilli's get to 8 cm long with thick flesh, originating from Mexico. Hardy Summer vegetable, high yielding. Adds flavour to cooked dishes. Ideal for bottling.

Heat level: 5/10

Chilli's like very fertile well drained soil in a sunny or part shade position. Sow seeds during late winter in a hot house or during spring & summer without a hot house. It's best to sow in pots, cover seed with 3mm of soil then transplant seedlings at 5cm to garden position space 80cm apart.

Caution handle seeds with care, may cause irritation.
