48 Hour Bone Broth Recipe

Bone broth's are packed with nutrients, including calcium, phosphorus, iron and lot's of protein, especially collagen.

Home made bone broths are preferable as they contain less salt and you have the choice to customise the ingredients.

Using organic ingredients is super important as toxins are usually stored in animal bones and are leached into the broth during long cooking times.

48 Hour Bone Broth Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1kg of Organic beef or lamb bones OR 1 whole organic raw chicken
  • 1-2 brown onions, quartered, skin on
  • 3 carrots, chopped into thirds
  • 3 sticks of celery, chopped into thirds
  • Large handful of fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, thyme)
  • 3 tbs Apple Cider Vinegar

Method

  1. Wash all veg and herbs thoroughly
  2. Place all ingredients into a large slow cooker
  3. Cover with filtered water - approx 2 to 3L (This will be the amount of stock at the end. If you want a more concentrated stock, opt for 2L)
  4. Put the slow cooker on a high setting until it reaches a boil.
  5. Reduce to the low setting and leave for 24-48 hours, checking every so often. Note: If you are using a whole chicken, you will need to remove the meat from the bones once it is cooked and then add the bones back for the 24-48 hr cook.
  6. Strain the broth through a fine mesh sieve into freezer safe containers or jars for the fridge
